Honeywell Engine Using 100% Sustainable Aviation Fuel Successfully Tested On Embraer Business Jet
LAS VEGAS, Oct. 15, 2023 /PRNewswire/ -- Honeywell announced today that Embraer has successfully tested Honeywell's HTF7500 turbofan engine on its Praetor 600 aircraft using 100% sustainable aviation fuel (SAF). The test marks a major milestone, as this is the first time 100% SAF has been flown in Honeywell's business jet engines.

The test, with one engine using 100% SAF and the other using traditional jet fuel, was performed at the Embraer campus in Melbourne, Florida, and provided new insights into how the engine performs when utilizing a 100% SAF formulation. It successfully demonstrated that the HTF7500 engine running on 100% SAF performed just as flawlessly as when running on traditional jet fuel.

"We are pleased to be creating a more sustainable future for aviation with industry leaders like Embraer," said Dave Marinick, president, Engines and Power Systems, Honeywell Aerospace. "This testing milestone with our engine demonstrates the viability of SAF for Embraer and the overall aviation industry, as they work to meet carbon reduction commitments. Additionally, as we develop SAF solutions, we will be using these innovations in our own engines and APUs."

Oil prices surge in September, but macro worries spur October drop
Oil prices surge in September, but macro worries spur October drop
KUWAIT CITY, OCT 10: Oil prices increased for the fourth month in a row in September, driven by tightening oil market fundamentals amid still resilient economic activity. Brent crude closed the month up at $95.3/bbl (+9.7 percent m/m; +10.9 percent ytd), also posting its best quarterly performance (+27 percent q/q) since Q1 2022 in the process. Local crude marker Kuwait Export Crude (KEC) rose to $97.9/bbl (+9.1 percent m/m; +19.3 percent ytd), maintaining its premium over Brent in reflection of the relatively tighter medium sour crude landscape post-Saudi and Russian supply cuts.

Moving into October, however, and oil’s sharp rise ran into resistance, with the price of Brent falling to the mid-80s. The impetus appeared to be a mix of profit-taking by speculators and oil demand concerns related to key central banks including the US Fed keeping interest rates higher for longer. The consequent strengthening of the US dollar—up 1.7 percent over the last two weeks on a trade-weighted basis—has also been a negative influence on the dollar-denominated oil price.

Business owners can operate under single headquarters
Business owners can operate under single headquarters
KUWAIT CITY, OCT 11: Minister of Commerce and Industry and Minister of State for Youth Affairs Mohammad Al-Aiban issued a decision that permits business owners engaged in multiple commercial activities to operate from a single headquarters using a single commercial serial number. This decision applies as long as the business owner does not exceed having four companies operating from one headquarters.

This decision eliminates the need for business practitioners or merchants with multiple activities and commercial licenses to rent multiple offices. Instead, a central office is now sufficient for licensing all their diverse businesses under one roof. As per resolution no. 146/2023, outlined in article 1, companies and their subsidiaries can share a single headquarters and operate under one commercial serial number.

However, there are specific requirements that must be met. The company’s ownership in its subsidiary must exceed 50 percent, and the company should issue consolidated financial statements that incorporate the financial information of its owned companies. Importantly, the total number of companies operating from a single headquarters should not exceed four.

DOE also reopened the program for new applications, ensuring SMMs can continue to apply for grants throughout the next year. Funded by the President’s Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, the IAC Implementation Grants program provides up to $300,000 per manufacturer to implement recommendations made by DOE and other qualified energy assessments. Today’s announcements reinforce the Biden-Harris Administration’s efforts to revitalize American manufacturing, create good-paying jobs in communities across the nation, and meet the President’s ambitious goal of a net-zero economy by 2050.

The 30-year fixed mortgage rate just hit 8% for the first time since 2000 as Treasury yields soar
US, OCT 18: The average rate on the popular 30-year fixed mortgage rate hit 8% Wednesday morning, according to Mortgage News Daily. That is the highest level since mid-2000.

The milestone came as bond yields soar to levels not seen since 2007. Mortgage rates follow loosely the yield on the 10-year U.S. Treasury.

Rates rose sharply this week and last week, as investors digest more reads on the economy. On Wednesday, it was housing starts, which rose in September, though not as much as expected, according to the U.S. Census Bureau.

Building permits, an indicator of future construction, fell, but by a less than the expected amount. Last week, retail sales came in far higher than expected, creating more uncertainty over the Federal Reserve’s long-term plan.

The report – which includes new Department research alongside new data released by the Federal Reserve Board – finds that the speed and strength of the response by the Biden-Harris Administration helped to thwart the worst economic outcomes anticipated from the COVID shock for Black and Hispanic families, and that, across a broad array of economic indicators, the financial well-being of Black and Hispanic families have remained strong relative to recoveries in recent history.
