Kuwait makes history as the first Arab nation with 90 female judges

KUWAIT CITY, Oct 17, (Agencies): Kuwait has taken a momentous stride in promoting gender equality within the judiciary by becoming the first in the Arab world and the Middle East to appoint 90 Kuwaiti female judges. These accomplished judges began their journey as trainee attorneys within the Public Prosecution, operating under the guidance of the Attorney General.

According to a well-informed source cited by Sabq, the High Judicial Council has officially sanctioned the appointment of 19 trainee attorneys, alongside nearly 100 new trainee attorneys. This decision has been made to expedite the selection of the most qualified candidates and to address the judiciary’s staffing needs.

The source further revealed that, since the inclusion of female candidates in the trainee attorney role, 15 of these individuals have been elevated to the esteemed position of “judge.” This promotion is a testament to their competence and valuable experience, which they have gained through their involvement in the investigation of some of the most complex and pivotal cases within the Public Prosecution.
