The Cigna Healthcare Middle East Vitality Study reveals a distinct disparity between the vitality scores of employees in the Middle East (ME) at 78.8, significantly surpassing the global average of 69.5. This difference underscores the unique cultural and identity factors prevalent in the ME, contributing to a more positive outlook among its workforce. Despite the higher vitality scores, the study highlights concerning stress levels, particularly among Gen Z and junior employees in the ME, with incidences at 96% and 93% respectively, compared to an ME average of 90%.
The transition towards flexible working arrangements is evident, with 47% of ME employees reporting a work-from-home (WFH) policy, slightly above the global average of 45%. This shift is further illustrated by the preference for hybrid working models, with 46% of ME employees favoring a mix of office and remote work, and an additional 19% opting for full-time remote work.

In terms of productivity, the ME workforce is divided; 47% believe they are most productive when working from the office full-time, while 51% find hybrid or remote working to be equally or more productive. The study also notes that 84% of ME employees report their health and wellbeing (H&WB) support has remained the same or increased, with 34% witnessing a rise in H&WB support, surpassing the global average of 27%. Notably, the study reveals that one in three employees in the ME display high vitality, compared to one in five globally.
Stress remains a pervasive issue, with 90% of ME employees experiencing high levels post-pandemic, indicating a critical need for employers to prioritize mental health alongside productivity. KUWAIT CITY, Feb 17: Since the 1950s, Kuwait has undergone a remarkable transformation in the energy sector, transitioning from traditional fuels to cutting-edge renewable technologies. This journey reached a milestone with the inauguration of the Al-Shaqaya Renewable Energy Complex in 2016, underscoring Kuwait’s dedication to innovation and sustainability, reports Al-Qabas daily. The complex integrates photovoltaic, concentrated solar, and wind energy systems, aligning with the late Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah’s vision of deriving 15% of energy from renewables by 2030. However, plans for nuclear energy were reevaluated post-2011, influenced by the Fukushima disaster. Global efforts to address climate change, exemplified by agreements at COP 28, highlight the imperative of transitioning to clean energy sources. Kuwait, once a regional energy leader, is now at the forefront of this transition. In the late 1970s, the Kuwait Institute for Scientific Research initiated solar energy programs and explored nuclear energy possibilities, demonstrating its commitment to diversification. Looking forward, Kuwait faces the challenge of securing vast land for renewable projects, with projections indicating a need for over 500 square kilometers to achieve 50% renewable energy production by 2050. |
